The Winery

THE WINERY

The ceiling wood came from Germany, after a special treatment for this project.

The fermentation tanks came from France and provide a thermal inertia beneficial for the fermentation process. A thermal control system has also been installed for keeping stable the temperatures, both in winter and summer.

The laboratory let us do analysis for the monitoring of all the processes of the winemaking.

Finally, the barrels used for the aging of Montecastro come from first quality French Oak in a 70%, American Oak in 25% and 5% of Eastern Countries of Europe.

The barrels are only used in two vintages, it means that half of the barrels that aged one vintage are new and the second half are from a previous vintage.

The main suppliers of barrels are: Saury, Bernard, L’Adour, Mendocino and Surtep.

PLACING

On VA-130 Road on its cross with N-122 in the municipal district of Castrillo de Duero (Valladolid). It’s a surface plot of 1,75 ha.

PROJECT

The winery project was done thinking about a winery able to manufacture  around 250.000 or 300.000 annual bottles and built in three stages:

  • The first stage (existing) is the tanks room in which currently 140.000 or 150.000 bottles are prepared.
  • The second stage will be the barrels area, which will be perpendicular to the existing warehouse and parallel to the stream of the estate.
  • The third stage will be the bottles, expeditions and social hall room, that will be undertaken as soon as the positive results are achieved in the winery, being  financed by the own winery.

ARCHITECT

The winery’s building has been design by the architect Roberto Valle in harmony with the environment of the winery such as he did in Peñafiel’s Castle for the Museum of Wine.

Roberto is the architect that has design the Museum of Wine in Peñafiel and the  roman house museum in Almenara. The design combines the outside white stone from the moor, characteristic of the area, the “corten” steel and the glasses; with the inside dyed concrete and the wood.
